Outskirts of Rome

The villas of Tivoli
The Villas of Tivoli is a splendid tour that will allow you to visit residences of two different periods: Villa Adriana (Hadrian) from the Roman period, and Villa d’Este from the Renaissance period.

The first was wanted by the Emperor Hadrian in order to remember the monuments and places admired during his travels to the East, and its ruins today still show the grandeur of yore.

The second, one of the most beautiful Renaissance residences, is surrounded by enchanting Italian gardens, animated by innumerable fountains and water play.

The Archaeological Excavations of Ostia Antica
In Roman times, it was the most important port on the Mediterranean, and you can still visit the antique city and its well-conserved ruins.  The excavations actually hold the ruins of the largest part of the city, dug mostly in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Together with public monuments, a number of private structures – houses, production sites and association headquarters, have also been conserved.  All of that evokes an image of daily life in ancient times.

A trip among the Castelli Romani (“Castles of Rome”)
A name that contains an ensemble of towns not far from Rome, but at the same time, an ensemble of fortifications owned by various Baronial families of Rome built on the heights of these places.  These days, however, most of those fortifications have been destroyed or reconstructed and transformed into summer residences.  From Marino to Genzano di Roma, from Frascati to Castel Gandolfo, many of the most important towers and palaces still offer the chance to leap into the past and admire that which was part of life in that day - walking through the historical town centres, and tasting local wines and typical dishes.  It’s not by chance that the Castelli Romani area is perhaps the richest of events, between festivals and important fairs – especially during the Summer and Autumn period.
